Sewickley Township Community Ambulance Service (STCAS) was founded in 1972 and started out as just a concerned group of township residents.  Prior to that time, the local funeral director transported the ill and injured to the nearest hospital and provided limited lifesaving measures.

The first ambulance was a hearse donated by Hilary E. Stadler.  The first NEW ambulance was purchased in 1974.  By 1978, STCAS had 17 Emergency Medical Technicians and the only Paramedic in Westmoreland County at the current time.

As time went on, the amount of volunteers steadily declined and in the late 1980's, with the support of the community and the Sewickley Township Supervisors, STCAS became a combination volunteer-paid department.  With the lack of funding and volunteerism and a steadily increasing cost of operation and training requirements, the service could no longer sustain itself.

STCAS entered into a management agreement with North Huntingdon Rescue 8 in August of 2000.  What that provided STCAS was the much needed financial support and additional personnel to keep the community safe.  In May of 2001, North Huntingdon Rescue 8 took over complete operations of STCAS and provided coverage to the residents of Sewickley Township until the STCAS reorganization became effective 01-01-2006.
